Why This Site Uses the Default Drupal Theme (Garland)

You may be wondering why, if the services we offer include help with Drupal, this site uses Garland, the default Drupal theme —albeit with Stanford colors— instead of a custom theme. The reason is simple: we want to demonstrate how nice Drupal sites can look, even just straight out of the box.  (The Garland theme includes easy color configuration.)

But Drupal sites can look however one wishes —and, once a look or "theme" is created, it is easy to switch between it and other themes, with just a few clicks. For some examples of free, ready-made Drupal themes, see Theme Garden (a demonstration site for dozens of themes).

For examples of themes used at Stanford University (ranging from off-the-shelf to highly customized), check out some of the sites we've worked on as well as other Sites using Drupal at Stanford. (Note: this is not an exhaustive list of Stanford Drupal sites.) For examples of Drupal sites outside of Stanford, ranging from the White House to Warner Brothers Records to the New York Observer to Amherst College, see Case Studies at Drupal.org.
